No, you do not need to wake up at 5am

Every time I read about the habits of successful people or how millionaires start their day, I always wonder, how are they feeling? - because usually, these habits, the waking up early and the goal smashing, just tells you about their productivity.

And if that’s important to you, you know, being productive... that’s great! Study the millionaires.

But you know who I’m most curious about, the people who really love and enjoy their lives.

And the more I pay attention to them, the more I’m able to spot the things they have in common...

Like doing things that feel good and practicing simple rituals that bring joy and beauty into their lives in meaningful and realistic ways.

One of my favorite rituals is my morning ritual. It’s how I practice self love daily - it doesn’t always look the same, sometimes I work out, sometimes I write and I always sit with a hot cup of something yummy.

But I always always start with me.

So why should you create a morning ritual?

It does wonders for your self- worth. Because by creating this space and attention to yourself first, you’re communicating to yourself that you love, respect and value yourself. And that is just absolutely immeasurable.

There’s never going to be a good or convenient time. There’s always going to be something urgent, something pending and something so important that needs your attention.

So your morning ritual is going to be like a big, red stop sign reminding you to love yourself first.

  • So you stop rushing into the day

  • So that you give your brain something other than your to do list to focus on first

  • And so that you can stop pulling on the emergency self care Sunday brakes

So how do you create a morning ritual?

Whether you wake up at 5 am or not, you can design a ritual that works for you, your lifestyle and your energy.

Step 1: set the intention for the thing(s) you want to prioritize first. It could be that you want to exercise more regularly and tap into those feel good endorphins or you just want to start your day slowly before the demands of your schedule.

Step 2: define the intensity and frequency of your ritual. This should be realistic for your life--maybe you’re doing your ritual in the car while you commute or you block a few minutes each morning, or you wake up earlier to make time. It’s totally up to you how and where you do it.

Step 3: curate the details around your ritual to elevate the experience. If your morning ritual involves working out, then invest in the best, most stylish workout gear and accessories.

I have the cutest kettle and coffee making gadgets and I almost always wear a robe and light a candle.

Remember, your morning ritual is an experience you want to look forward to every day

My number one rule

It should feel good, it should always be intentional and it must work for you. Technically, that was three rules, but it’s really easy to get caught up with what you do and doing it right that you lose the intention of why you’re doing it in the first place.

If it stops feeling good then you’re doing it wrong.

My biggest breakthrough

I used to struggle with feeling bad about not waking up early enough until I decided to shift my focus away from the time I woke up to what I do when I wake up.

So now it doesn’t matter if I’m up at 5am or 10 am, I always start my day with intention--with my morning ritual.

And no matter what’s on the schedule, I show up for me first.

If you don’t yet have a morning ritual, design one that works for you- and just watch how much more love, beauty and just feel good vibes you’ll start to experience every day.

And if you do have one, hot reply and share it with me! For real, I’d love to know!
