Why I Journal

Think of a watch.

On the outside, it displays the time but on the inside, there's an entire mechanism of gears that move and maintain the time.

When you glance at its face, rarely do you ever think about those gears lying beneath, you hear it tick, you see the hands move but all you truly care for is that the time is right so you know exactly how many minutes you have before your next call, your next client or just how long you’ve been sitting in the valet line at your kid’s school!

Much like that watch, you and I have an inner and outer world: the face that the world sees and the gears below that keeps us ticking.

Why I think journaling is essential

You need a way to manage your inner world, and the part of yourself that only you know and have access to; your feelings, emotions, biases and perception.

The Law of Correspondence states that what happens around us, is a direct reflection of what is happening within us. In other words, your inner world determines your outer world.

So if your feelings influence your habits, your actions and your actual physical life, then managing and nurturing your inner self is without question, essential.

Journaling is essential because it allows you to nurture a beautiful relationship with yourself & to do the work to ensure your wholeness & wellbeing.

I like to think of journaling as a way to keep your mechanism working and one of the best ways to help you to manifest the best version of yourself and the life you want.

WHY i JOURNAL

  • To maintain my well being

  • To practice self love

  • To move towards my vision for my life in my own unique way

  • To manage myself: my assumptions, perception and emotions, so they don’t get in my way of my progress

One of my favorite benefits of journaling is that it helps me to cultivate and maintain the self awareness I need to spot my patterns, navigate my feelings or to take an action I need to take, like:

  • to audit if my actions align with the type of person I want to be

  • to be more appreciative and contemplate the good parts of my life

  • to slow down and get back in harmony with my self

  • to release trapped emotions (this release is one of my favorite things to experience)

  • to make a change to my lifestyle, behaviour or environment

And this is when everything changed for me because journaling highlights for me, the actions I need to take!

Journaling has helped me to deliberately move toward what I want but also towards becoming my highest self.

what I believe it means to change your life:

Continuously shifting and elevating yourself in deliberate pursuit of your highest self.

how I journal

Not all journaling is created equal.

Journaling is a personal experience and until you find your ideal journaling style, it can feel unproductive and you might not experience the real magic and joy it can add to your life.

I believe that what and how you journal should resonate with your personality, lifestyle and your real and true intentions.

When done right, journaling can help you elevate your life and deliver clear, life changing benefits.

It took me a while to discover how to journaling in a meaningful way but now that I have, I have a real tool to help me design the life I want and type of woman I want to be.

These are some of my go-to journaling uses:

Manifesting

I could always ‘see’ what I wanted and writing it down somehow made it feel possible, real and tangible.

Like if I could write it and express it, then I could find a way to make it happen. This was before manifesting became a buzzword but now I realize that that’s what I’ve been doing.

I make lists of all the things I want and places I want to travel to. In the past, I would draw my dream house and how I would decorate the rooms. I’d cut and paste outfits from magazines and describe in details the type of woman I wanted to be.

Archiving

When I read  Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, I was completely fascinated. I thought it was brilliant that she had unknowingly created an archive of her life but also such a brilliant documentary of this horrific and pivotal moment in history.

And it made me want to write and document my story. So I started to create an archive with the intention that, it would tell a really beautiful story of who I really am and the parts of me that no one gets to see.

Honest Reflection and Discovery

Sometimes journaling is the only way I can explore or really define what it is I want for my life. It’s the only place I can truly express myself without worrying about being misunderstood or distracted from my real, true intentions. It’s how I cultivate trust in my true voice and inner guidance.

self management, expression & connection.

Adult life is no joke. I am a whole wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend but first, I am me and I am mine. And when I sit to journal, it's my way of nurturing what it means, to be me in the highest possible way.

My uses for journaling seems to evolve with each phase of my life but what remains unchanged is the undeniable fact that journaling is an incredible ritual and tool that can help you navigate life as your highest self.
