I Wish This Was Sexier

The word hobby isn’t a very sexy word. It makes me think of the color brown for some reason but if you can get past it then let’s talk about why you need one.

Why are hobbies important?

When you create space in your life to not work all the time, you have to intentionally replace that time with something meaningful. And if you’re like me, you like having something to do! So hobbies help you channel all that energy.

But you don’t just pick the hobby you think is sexy or would be nice to say you do. You have to pick the one you’ll actually look forward to doing.

Backstory

Like the time I thought I wanted to garden.

It wasn’t enough that all the gardening tools were primary colored, it was also just way too much responsibility with way too much dirt involved. So I quit. But floral arranging, flowers come pretty and all I have to do is design them from my cool, clean kitchen. So I continued.

Now imagine finding a thing you really enjoy to only experience it from a surface leveL.

When I took that florals class for pro wedding florists I was so fascinated by all the things I just didn’t know!

Before the class I realize that all I’ve been doing is dropping random flowers in a vase, nom pruning, no intent….. the nerve of calling it “floral arranging”. But from this class, I’ve learned to write floral recipes, to blend textures, to create space and movement and shop for my flowers intentionally.

If I might say so myself...now I create art!

My floral arranging is now a richer experience and I feel like I’m in on a secret because I got more depth… I went below the surface.

So, when you find your hobby go a little deeper

Research the history, origin or inspiration behind it, take a class or course and practice!

P.S: never hesitate to pay a florist.
